Microneedling in Berlin-Mitte

A Neocutis® mask closes the visit. At the end your Meisterin des Hauses applies Alastin® Regenerating Skin Nectar, before you leave.

Because microneedling works purely mechanically, with neither light nor heat, it can be tuned to many skin tones. It is often chosen for skin whose surface looks uneven, whose pores have become more visible, or where acne scarring has been left behind. Some skin is better accompanied by a facial, and we will tell you that openly too.

What should I do after microneedling?

Less, and for longer than you think. For the first few days leave the actives out, the retinoids and the acids in particular, and be strict about sun protection, because skin that has just been needled is more reactive to light than usual. No sauna, no heavy exercise and no swimming pool on the first day. You leave with written notes rather than a spoken list, because nobody remembers a spoken list on the way home.

What do you put on the skin afterwards?

The visit closes with a Neocutis® NEO Restore mask. It is a biocellulose sheet carrying hyaluronic acid with tetrapeptide-21 and palmitoyl tripeptide-1, laid on while the skin settles. At the close of the visit your Meisterin des Hauses applies Alastin® Regenerating Skin Nectar. It is a peptide preparation built on Tripeptide-1 and Hexapeptide-12. It belongs to the visit rather than to your bathroom shelf, and it can be bought separately if you would like to continue it at home. Beyond that, less is better than more: something bland and hydrating, and sun protection. This is where more harm is done than undone, because skin with open channels takes up whatever is put on it.

Can I use fake tan or make-up after microneedling?

Not on the first days. Self-tanning products and make-up both sit on a surface that is temporarily open, and neither was formulated for that. Give it until the redness has settled and the skin feels like itself again, which is usually the third day, and ask us rather than guess if you have something specific in mind. The same caution applies to exfoliating acids and to anything marketed as a resurfacing serum.

What does your skin look like two days after microneedling?

Warm, and flushed the way skin looks after too long in the wind. Sometimes there are pinpoint marks, and sometimes a light flaking as it settles. It is usually presentable by the second or third day and it does not need to be hidden. We say this plainly rather than describing the treatment as something you can have on a lunch break, because you should be able to plan around it.

What is the downside of microneedling?

There are four and we name all of them. There is real sensation during the treatment. There is short downtime afterwards, one to three days. It works through repetition rather than through one appointment. And it does not suit every skin: in deeper skin tones pigment shift is the risk to respect, which is managed by conservative depth and strict photoprotection rather than by hoping.

Does microneedling hurt?

It is not a comfortable treatment and we do not call it one. A topical anaesthetic is applied and given time to work, which makes it well tolerated. Alongside it runs Zimmer CryoPro™, a contact-free stream of cold air. It cools the skin through each pass and takes the heat and redness out of it afterwards. We publish no number on a pain scale, because sensation is individual and a number only pretends otherwise.

Which microneedling device do you use?

The Candela Exceed™, and it is not built by Candela. It is engineered and manufactured in Berlin, by MT.DERM GmbH under the amiea med brand. The company is registered under HRB 70730 and certified to ISO 13485. Its sterile single-use cartridge carries a membrane that prevents fluid backflow and with it any cross-contamination. Depth is adjustable in small increments and set to your skin rather than to a protocol. That is a property of the tool rather than a claim about it.

Is this mechanical or radiofrequency microneedling?

Purely mechanical. The Candela Exceed™ puts no radiofrequency and no therapeutic heat into the skin. It sets fine channels and nothing else, and the cold air keeps the skin cool while it does. That is a deliberate choice for skin that is not looking for intensity, not a limitation. Radiofrequency is a different method with a different aim, and in this house it lives on the INDIBA® radiofrequency page, on its own instrument.

Is microneedling effective at home?

A home roller and a professional pen are different objects. The difference is not the price but three things: a sterile cartridge used once, a depth set in small increments and recorded, and a motor-driven vertical entry rather than a rolling one that drags the skin sideways. Then there is what happens before the first pass, which is the part no device includes.

Which is better for aging skin, microneedling or a chemical peel?

They do different work, and we offer both, which is why we can answer without selling. A peel works chemically at the surface and suits tone, pigment and congestion. Microneedling works mechanically at depth and suits texture and indented scarring. Where acne scarring carries a pigment component we often alternate the two, here with the VI Peel® chemical peel. Which comes first is decided by the skin, not by the menu.

Is 40 too old for microneedling?

No, and the question is worth answering properly rather than dismissing. Collagen synthesis slows with age but it does not stop, and the wound-healing response microneedling relies on is present throughout adult life. What changes with age is pace: the interval between visits matters more, and the arc is longer. Skin in its sixties is accompanied differently from skin in its thirties, and that difference is settled in the reading before the first visit.

Does microneedling help with acne scarring?

This is the indication with the strongest evidence behind it. A meta-analysis of randomised trials examined indented acne scarring. It found that microneedling without radiofrequency produced a statistically significant improvement. The quality of that evidence is graded moderate to low. So we speak about appearance and about a course, never about removal. Active breakouts are calmed first, and that path is the care for pigmentation and blemish-prone skin.

Which treatment actually helps with acne scarring?

Indented scarring and flat dark marks are two different things and need two different treatments, and that distinction is the whole answer. Indented, structural scarring responds to microneedling, because it remodels at depth. Flat dark marks left after a breakout has healed are not scar tissue at all, they are pigment, and a chemical peel is the better route for them. The two often sit side by side, and then we alternate. Raised or keloid scarring belongs in medical hands, and we say so rather than attempt it.

Can microneedling help with broken capillaries?

Usually not, and it is often the wrong instrument for that skin altogether. Visible capillaries sit in a vascular picture that a needling treatment can provoke rather than settle. Skin that flushes, reddens or reacts easily is better served by the care for sensitive and reactive skin, and where the surface is irritated the LDM® Triple ultrasound is the quieter route. We would rather say this now than after.

Does microneedling help with lymphatic drainage?

No, and the two are genuinely separate. Microneedling works in the skin itself; lymphatic work is a manual technique addressing fluid and congestion, and it belongs to a different pair of hands and a different appointment. The house offers it as Dr. Vodder® manual lymph drainage, and where puffiness rather than texture is the concern, that is the honest recommendation even though it is not this page.

Who is microneedling not suitable for?

Active skin infection including cold sores, a tendency to raised or keloid scarring, recent isotretinoin, and pregnancy all speak against it. That is not settled at the appointment but before it, in a written intake: skin history including eczema, rosacea, acne and any history of pigment shift; procedures in the past six months, meaning injectables, laser and light, peels, needling and radiofrequency; medication and topicals, prescription retinoids in particular; the state of the skin on the day; sun exposure and your routine at home.

Three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, is the usual shape. The spacing is not a scheduling convention; it is the time the skin needs between two visits. One figure we state precisely: the time on the card is hands-on time at the skin, not the length of the appointment. The calendar entry is longer, because arriving, the orientation and settling afterwards belong to the visit too.

How soon do you see a change, and how long does it last?

Nothing happens overnight, and that is the method rather than a shortcoming. The remodelling in the skin runs over weeks, which is why the visits sit deliberately apart. We do not name a duration in months: there is no honest number for it, and any figure given would be guessed.
