The Origins of INDIBA
INDIBA® was founded in Barcelona in 1983 by José Calbet, a researcher who devoted his life to radiofrequency for the body. His first device worked through capacitive electrical transfer; with the addition of a resistive electrode came the method known in physiotherapy and sports medicine to this day as TECAR, capacitive-resistive radiofrequency. Over four decades, this grew into a technological school of its own, carried by more than a dozen patents and over twenty-five device models.
At its center is a single frequency: 448 kHz, the signature frequency of INDIBA®, described by the company as proionic technology. Through a capacitive and a resistive electrode, the radiofrequency carries steadily into the tissue and creates a controlled, deep warmth there. The frequency has been the subject of scientific study for years; it is its precision, not its strength, that distinguishes it.
Coming from physiotherapy and elite sport, 448 kHz radiofrequency established itself worldwide over decades and found its place in aesthetic care. It is still developed in Barcelona today; the legacy of its founder, who died in 2018, continues to shape the company.
